Career Details

Andre started racing when he was 11 years old in the 60cc Kart Cadet series at Tilbury where he competed in three races and finished fourth in his first race. Due to lack of funds Andre was unable to take part in further competitions for several years.

Andre next competed in the Junior Britain 100cc series aged 15 and won the first six races and finished in the top four on most occasions. The following year saw Andre make an ambitious jump to Super One, the main English karting championship in which he managed several creditable finishes including a fourth place, even though he was running on a very small budget compared to the major teams.

In 1996 along with 48 other competitors, Andre entered the Elf La Filiere challenge in which the countries top karting drivers compete over three days, driving a selection of vehicles including Karts, Saloons, Formula First’s and Formula Ford’s. The winner of the competition winning a full years scholarship worth £100,000. Andre was bitterly disappointed to finish second and won nothing.

In 1997 Andre competed in the Formula First championship sponsored by the Formula One Club, Formula Solutions and So Clean and in his first race at Brands Hatch qualified an excellent third and drove a perfect race eventually finishing second. Throughout the season Andre competed in 17 races with some very impressive statistics – only 2 non finishes, 10 podiums, 3 pole positions, 14 top six finishes and 3 fastest laps. Unfortunately lack of funds meant that Andre missed the final three races, but still ended the season in a very creditable third place in the championship.

In 1998, with the full support of Cabasham Licensed Credit Brokers, Andre started the season competing in the Formula Ford Zetec championship. Andre joined a small team with a relatively unknown chassis with the intention of making an impact by regularly breaking into the top eight finishers. From the outset everyone realised that this was an ambitious proposal, but nobody quite realised the magnitude of the task ahead.

It became clear from the pre-season testing that it would require a lot more than just skilled driving to get anywhere near the front of the field. There was just not enough days in the week to allow the amount of testing that would be required to develop the chassis and engine package for it to become competitive.

With no good seats remaining in the Formula Ford Zetec championship, Andre switched to the Formula Renault Sport championship for the remainder of the season. The move allowed Andre to familiarise himself with 'slicks and wings' racing. Andre achieved some excellent results in the new car and narrowly missed out on a Star Cup win towards the end of the season.

For the 1998 winter series Andre competed in the Formula Dodge Southern Series in America. The race series comprised 7 race weekends with two races each weekend. The series is extremely popular with over 140 competitors taking part split into 6 groups each weekend.

Although the competition included many experienced drivers with knowledge of both the tracks and the cars, Andre made his mark at the first race by setting the fastest overall lap of the weekend and qualifying on pole position. Andre finished the championship with 3 victories and 4 second places making him the lead rookie and placing him seventh overall in the championship out of 143 entrants. See the Skip Barber website for more information about this series.

For the 1999 season Andre competed in the BARC Formula Renault championship with Aztec racing. Andre started the year with a pole position and a win at the opening round in atrocious weather conditions at Thruxton. Of the eight races that Andre started in 1999, he was on the front row of the grid in seven of them, including five pole positions. Unfortunately Andre was unable to complete the season due to insufficient budget.

In 2000 Andre competed in the first four races of the Formula Dodge Mid West Series in America. Andre qualified on the front row, with three pole positions, in all races and went on to win three of the races. In the other race he was leading when gearbox failure robbed him of a fourth win. Lack of budget and the desire to focus on the 2001 campaign meant that Andre did not take part in any further races.

Throughout 2001 and 2002 Andre competed in the Radical Sportscar championship achieving numerous podium finishes including several wins including Nurnburgring.

In 2003 Andre competed in the inaugural televised Seat Supra Championship.

Since 2004 Andre has been competing in a number of championships and most recently has been a front runner in the Britcar Series. In 2008 the extremely successful partnership with Michael Symons racing the BMW in the Britcar Championship is to be continued.
